Job Description


I am working on behalf of a well-established organisation based in the South Tyneside Area. We are looking to recruit an advocacy worker on a contract up to 37.5 hours a week with the possibility to go permanent.

The organisation's main focus has been around supporting people with mental health needs both physically and emotionally regardless of their ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation. This charitable organisation offers practical and emotional support to all those in need, to help manage their mental health disorders.

Within this role you will be providing a professional service within advocacy to people with mental health needs, learning disabilities and physical disabilities. You will be discussing options regarding a potential decision's or the next course of action for that person. You will be supporting people with making a complaint or a challenging decision. Assisting and providing information regarding the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and other legislation's, liaising with other professionals on their behalf and making sure that person's voice is heard. This will be on a case by case basis and will change based on the needs of that case.

Essential requirements:
" Advocacy experience is essential for this role
" A DBS on the update service is desirable
" Have to ability and knowledge to provide issue-based advocacy case work
" Have an effective working relation with people over the telephone.
" Experience of working with people with mental health needs
" Experience of working to the principles of the Advocacy Code of Practice
" Experience of case recording
" I.T literate and ability to complete general work duties
" Experience of risk assessment processes

" Good numeracy and literacy skills
" Ability to use your own initiative and ability to work in a team along with other professionals
" Self-direction
" Have an understanding and compassionate personality


Shift patterns - Monday to Friday 9am - 4.30pm
