Job Description

We are looking for a new, experienced Business Manager to join the ever-growing team at Mitre House National Probation Service in Southwark, London. Mitre House is located just a 10-minute walk from London Bridge railway station. This is a full-time, temporary role for an ongoing 3 months with a view to extend the contract further.

This is a non-operational post although an understanding of the wide range of Probation procedures, and policies across the organisation both operationally and at HQ are required. You will report directly to the Head of Operational Function and have line management responsibilities for the Diary Manager and Senior Administrative Officers.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Deputy Director/Head of Operational Function's workload
  • Ensure that all correspondence is reviewed, actioned, and responded to on behalf of the Head of Operational Function
  • Develop plans and strategies with colleagues to deal with risks
  • Help with the management of investigations by ensuring that systems are in place
  • Lead, facilitate and participate in working parties and undertake special projects
  • Establish effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues
  • Work with the finance department and HR to:
  • Agree and manage budgets and unit costs
  • Advise on financial and resourcing issues
  • Be responsible for banking within the operational function
  • Effectively Manage and Develop Staff
  • Manage and develop staff by providing effective supervision and appraisals
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and implement HR policies
  • Address poor performance and conduct issues. Help to come up with next steps to help ensure issues are not recurrent
  • Attend and participate in meetings
  • Liaise with staff to receive, collect, and analyse information

Salary: £17.65 p/h with benefits of pension scheme and holiday.

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 -17:00 (flexible)
