Job Description

Our client is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with competitive salary up to £36,000 per year.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Manufacturing engineering support for new and existing processes
  • Identify projects and opportunities for productivity improvement (e.g. yield, cost reduction, time reduction)
  • Utilise lean and problem solving methodologies to drive continuous improvement
  • Support development of operations by leading or facilitating process mapping, FMEA and control plans
  • Support manufacturing team in production process flows, cell design and process optimisation * Statistical analysis including SPC
  • Process validation of new and existing equipment
  • Generate and maintain manufacturing support documentation such as SOP's, work instructions, maintenance, calibration and test procedures
  • Generate and maintain ERP/SAP master data such as routings and work centres
  • Tool, jig, fixture and gauge design for manufacturing
  • Support the operations team in root cause investigation and CAPA
  • Support maintenance and calibration of equipment
  • Ensure compliance with the company Quality Management System
  • Perform other tasks as required

Who you are:

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Materials Engineering or a related discipline
  • Relevant experience in Manufacturing Engineering in high precision industry.
  • Knowledge and experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Experience of process validation and FMEA
  • Experience in using ERP systems (e.g. ORACLE, SAP)
  • Manufacturing tooling design experience
  • Good knowledge of statistical analysis and SPC
  • Experience of equipment calibration & maintenance
  • Sound problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Attention to detail and record keeping
  • Tenacious and thorough approach to task completion
  • Good communication and team skills
  • MS Office - PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Non-smoker/Non-vaper

Desirable

  • Experience in optics/laser/instrumentation related industries (Highly Desirable)
  • Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and industrialisation processes
  • SAP experience
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 requirements
  • Clean Room experience (ISO Class 6 or higher)
  • Experience in training others
  • Lean and Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent through experience
  • Knowledge and experience of 8D Process, 5Y & Fishbone Diagrams.
  • Competent in use ofSolidWorks,AutoCAD,MS Project and MSVisio

The Manufacturing Engineer must also be able to demonstrate adaptability and flexibility within the role along with the ability to take responsibility and make decisions. It is vital that they are both a team leader and team player.

  • Competent in the production and development processes
  • Demonstrate understanding of production planning concepts including the role of work centres and routines
  • Demonstrate File Maker database knowledge
  • Have basic knowledge of optical technologies
  • Have an understanding of the IP policy
  • Competent in the change control process (ECN)
  • Knowledgeable of the new part number generation process
  • Competent in appropriate WI's and TP's required for building and testing fiber products
  • Competent in appropriate WI's and TP's required for building and testing laser products
  • Must be computer literate (Excel - Intermediate standard, Word - Intermediate standard & PowerPoint - basic standard)

Start Date ASAP , working hours will be 37.5 hours per week
