Job Description

BS Social Care are looking for temporary Mental Health Crisis Support Workers in Crewe on a 3 months ongoing contract!

You would be reporting to the Service Manager / Registered Mental Health Nurse, providing personal and practical guidance and support to individuals in an accommodation-based crisis service, supporting individuals at a time of acute need to manage emotions and behaviours or with learning new skills when they are stepping down to more independent services.

The service will offer short term inventions to individuals who are unable to manage their mental health independently but do not require an acute inpatient admission.

This role would be based in a 24 hour accommodation based crisis support service for 11 individuals with complex mental health requirements. Your role will include liaising with agencies and individuals involved in the lives of people we provide services to.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • To support clients to manage urges to self-harm and engage in other self-injurious behaviours
  • To support clients to manage emotions by providing reassurance and comfort at a time of crisis
  • To support clients to maintain and manage complex relationships
  • To support compliance with prescribed medications
  • To support with the preparation of meals within a catered services
  • To deescalate challenging behaviour and ensure the safety of those residing at the service
  • To provide practical empowering support to clients in an enabling way, including encouraging and supporting them to undertake the day to day aspects of daily life, including when required, helping them to take medication in line with the support plan and standard operating procedures
  • To work with individual clients and their families, carers and friends to support them to access their communities as part of a move on pathway.
  • To work in partnership with other internal and external services and organisations to ensure the optimum independence for the individual.
  • To undertake and follow relevant risk assessments to ensure work can be carried out in an environment that is safe and conducive to meeting the outcomes for the client.
  • To undertake ongoing review and monitoring of an individual's progress against the goals set in the Support Plan and report progress.
  • To ensure that all services provided are done so in a dignified, respectful and compassionate way.
  • To positively encourage best practice and dignity in care, taking responsibility for raising concerns where practices fall below the level expected.
  • To comply with the reporting requirements under Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults legislation
  • To ensure records are organised and maintained accurately, completely and with the relevant information, in the correct format and using the appropriate process / system.
  • To ensure own mandatory training is kept up to date and all services provided adhere to required standards for CQC and quality systems
  • To be creative and proactive in working with individual.
  • To work flexibly over 7 days a week in line with the needs of the service
  • To ensure staff areas are kept clean and tidy and in line with Health and Safety expectations
  • To take part in on call duties as required

Rate of pay is £9.30 per hour (equating to £18,500 per annum) with holiday to accrue and benefits.

Shift patterns vary from 8-8 days and 8-8 nights over a 7 days rota with a start date of 8th February!

To be considered for this role you will be required to hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate on the update service and a minimum of 6 months relevant experience working within a similar setting. It is essential you also hold a Level 2 qualification in Health & Social care or equivalent, alternatively with a willingness to study towards the qualification.
