Job Description

BS Social Care are looking for a qualified Occupational Therapist to work with women and children who are victims of domestic violence and abuse to develop the skills, knowledge and attributes necessary to become survivors on a 1-year fixed term post in the first instance within the Northampton, Northamptonshire area.

About the employer; this employer is a Charity based in Northampton that offer free services to women and their children to support them through domestic violence and lead the lives they want to live. Alongside working with men who use coercive and controlling behaviours, enabling them to change their values, beliefs and attitudes to prevent further domestic abuse from happening. They offer a refuge to women and children to ensure they are in a safe, supporting environment to those who need it most.

About the job; you will be assisting the Operations Manager in the assessment of identifying the service user`s needs including children and young people`s needs to identify appropriate, therapeutic and wellbeing pathways of support, rehabilitation and recovery, helping them move on from the impact of domestic abuse. You will provide holistic and specialist support that enables women and children who are survivors of domestic abuse to lead full, satisfying and independent lives. To facilitate development and rehabilitation of service users who may have mental, emotional and physical disabilities by planning and administering occupational therapies and interventions. The role will include the development and establishment of occupational therapy service delivery, including development of policies, procedures, systems, communication routes and paperwork.

About the candidate; you will be a driver with a car that will enable to travel between the refuge and the community and it is essential that you hold a degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with relevant bodies (we cannot consider candidates without completing or near completion of this particular qualification). You will have a sound knowledge base and the ability to competently apply frames of reference to practice in response to client`s needs. Have a good understanding of, knowledge, and training in domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children. Have an understanding of safeguarding issues and the legal responsibilities surrounding these. You will understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children and have understanding and commitment to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practise.

In return this organisation will offer a full-time role working 37 hours weekly with flexibility through 5 days. This is 1-year fixed term post in the first instance paying £23,115 - £25,000 dependant on qualifications and experience. Some out of hours, evening, early morning and weekend work will be required. They will also offer; free parking, work place pension and comprehensive training through the role.
