Personal Assistant
Monday to Friday 9-5
1 year temporary assignment with a possible extension
£15.23 an hour


This is a varied and rewarding PA/Chief of Staff role to a Senior Civil Servant. You will provide both general PA/Chief of Staff support and more bespoke accessibility/practical support to a Deputy Director who is blind. While the Deputy Director is able to access most information using a screen-reader and has a guide dog to assist her in getting around, there remain some aspects of the role which are difficult or impossible for them to do without someone else's support. Your role will be to provide this essential support, enabling the Deputy Director to fulfil all aspects of her role.


Key Duties:

  • Administrative support: managing the Deputy Director's inbox and diary, including bringing important and urgent emails to thier attention, setting up meetings on thier behalf, managing diary clashes and ensuring they have has the relevant papers (agendas, items for discussion etc) in advance of meetings.
  • Information accessibility - converting graphical documents such as PowerPoint presentations into a format accessible to the Deputy Director (usually Microsoft Word), locating key documents on Teams and Sharepoint sites and formatting Word and Excel documents produced by the Deputy Director so that they are professionally presented (the Deputy Director uses a screen-reader which does not easily detect visual changes such as font type and size or line spacing).
  • Practical support - guiding the Deputy Director to meetings in offices Training will be provided.
  • In-office IT support - ad-hoc assistance to the Deputy Director with accessing aspects of the IT system which are not fully or quickly accessible with her assistive technology.
  • Other administrative and practical support as required to enable the Deputy Director to do all aspects of her role - this may include accompanying them on visits outside London (and possibly overseas) and supporting her at receptions and conferences.


We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build and maintain constructive and collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders including under time and workload pressures and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent IT skills including competence and confidence in using Microsoft Outlook (particularly inbox and calendar), Word, Excel, Powerpoint and teams and the ability to format documents (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) so they are well-presented for internal and external audiences.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain graphical information in words (as graphics are often not accessible to the Deputy Director).


Please note due to the role being in government you would need to undergo a high level clearance
