Job Description

Brook Street Social Care are currently working with an organisation which specialises in providing accommodation and support to young people aged 8-17. The service provides residents with day to day support, with the aim of progressing residents to semi - independent settings. My client is currently seeking for Senior Support Workers for their children residential home.

Our client currently accommodates 2 children in one of their 4 bedroom properties. The needs of the residents vary, from mental health, learning disabilities, anti social behaviour and more. They are seeking candidates who have experience supporting residents with challenging behaviour as well as supervising a team of residential support workers.

The job requires the candidate to:
- Be accountable for the safe running of the home during shift leading
- Be responsible for the organising of the house and the shift including day to day management and delegation to Support Workers
- Supervising Support Workers
- Provide primary basic care and a nurturing, (therapeutic) environment and ensure that all shifts reflect this practice
- Be a positive role model for the child and encourage the child to develop meaningful relationships and attachments.
- Contribute to the normal development of the children to enable them to reach their fullest potential by providing a stimulating and varied lifestyle.
- Work with firm and consistent boundaries in order to create safety and containment for the child.
- Work with children and young people who because of past trauma display extreme challenging behaviour.
- Work alongside the child to help develop a true sense of identity and feel of self worth.
- Work alongside the Registered Manager/Social worker to provide a comprehensive history of a child's life.
- Be able to identify signs of distress or abuse, and to ensure that children are monitored and protected.
- Be sensitive to the needs of individual children, taking account of race, culture, language and religion
- Talk and listen to children, and to observe their behaviour, and record significant features
- Be aware of the child's rights and to work in an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive manner.
- Work effectively alongside other team members to ensure the child develops in a caring and consistent environment/atmosphere.
- Liaise, where necessary, with other professionals, i.e. schools, social services etc.
- Help child to integrate into mainstream school and social activities.
Work alongside therapists to enable effective integration of care and therapy.
- Work with child and prospective carers to ensure child's successful integration into a family when placed.
- Assist in preparation for reviews, meetings and attend these.
- To be a key worker of a child
- To perform ad hoc tasks as and when required.

The ideal candidate will:
- Be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and other professionals, as well as be able to demonstrate Strong verbal and written skills.
- Will have a minimum of 2 years experience working with children with challenging behaviour.
- Be committed to undertaking an NVQ or other relevant professional qualification
- Hold a full clean driving licence
- Be able to work shifts, including sleeping in and overtime when required
- Be able to take part in various leisure activities with the children
- Be able to work within a team and on own initiative

£24,000 - £29,000

You`ll be expected to attend an interview and complete and induction.
